Welcome to the website of Charlestown Bowling Club
In 1886 the Earl of Elgin gifted land to the villagers of Charlestown, Limekilns and Pattiesmuir for the creation of a bowling green, as a means to promote the wellbeing and social interaction of the community. The Bowling Green is situated adjacent to the Queens Hall, located at the end of 'Double Row' in Charlestown, Fife, KY11 3EG.
On the afternoon of 25th September 1886 a considerable number of Ladies and Gentlemen, including the Earl and Countess of Elgin assembled to see and take part in the opening cermony. At this time sixty members had enrolled.
The first bowl was delivered by the young Lord Bruce, thereafter three rinks were formed and a game ensued under the tuition of six Gentlemen members of the North and South bowling greens from Dunfermline.
After the game, players met for tea in the Elgin Hotel. Thus was the formation of the presently named Charlestown Bowling Club.
Bowls is a great way to meet new friends and get active. You can play at any level you feel comfortable with. Be it social bowls with your friends, internal club competitions, weekly West Fife leagues and nominated championships or indeed entering and playing in the Scottish competitions. We also have regular friendly games against neighbouring clubs, which take place on Saturday afternoons. Finally, we have Sunday afternoon triple competitions for club trophies followed by afternoon tea. Good Social Fun !!
Free coaching is available for all ages, from qualified/certified coaches.
